Greetings to all Australian Salers Association members and friends.
With this mail out is the paperwork for the forthcoming ASA AGM on Saturday November 24th.
Roz and Ainsley Curtis have planned a great weekend around the Mount Gambier region for the AGM with visits to a number of local breeders and other attractions. There will be plenty of time to catch up with other members and friends on the bus, so we hope to see as many of you as can make it.
Full details for the weekend have already been emailed to all members, and are also available on the ASA website:
http://www.salersaustralia.com.au/australian-salers-agm-2018/
The full program is also available from our ASA website at:
The weekend is not restricted to ASA members; anyone with an interest in Salers is welcome. Please let Roz know ASAP if you would like to reserve a seat on the bus. (Email Roz on r-curtis@bigpond.com if at all possible, or call on mobile 0433 511 659 after hours please)
With this mail out are financial statements for the ASA. There were some delays in posting out FIS lists in 2018 which has impacted on our budget. Despite this, your Directors have been frugal under the expert watch of treasurer Michael Manley. As can been seen, nearly all costs are for running the Association, with little or no funding for other activities.
The ASA website continues to flourish under the energetic guidance of Roz Curtis, who is always on the lookout for material to post. This is a cost-free opportunity for members to promote their studs or share information of interest. We will continue to provide most communication with members through the website and/or via emails to save costs.
We have held regular 2 monthly Council meetings by skype over the past year, with business kept brief and issues dealt with efficiently. If any ASA member has issues they would like to bring to Council, please contact your State Representative, or myself, so that it can be tabled at the next Council meeting.
I would like to thank our current ASA Directors; Michael Manly, Kathy Gardner, Alan Penfold and Roz Curtis for the hard work they have put in over the past year. Without members prepared to put in time as Directors, we would not have an organisation.
It has been a pretty tough year for many of our members with lack of rain and feed. In speaking to breeders from some of Australia’s worst affected areas, it is hard to understand how cattle are surviving this prolonged drought. I have heard from more than 1 breeder that Salers do as well as any breed under these extreme conditions, but this is not much solace when animals are starving.
We are all praying for sustained rain and better conditions.
Best wishes to all,
Peter Rogers
Australian Salers Association President
